Why Do Affiliate Marketers Fail?
The failure of some Affiliate Marketers is due to six main reasons: The lack of knowledge and training, the use of the wrong methods and tools, listening to bad Guru advice on the internet, not focusing on a particular platform, the lack of consistency, and not giving enough value to their audience.
In the next part of this article, I have made sure to explain each of these reasons to allow you to understand better.
6 Reasons Why Affiliate Marketers Fail
1-Lack Of Knowledge & Training
Most affiliate marketers who start an affiliate marketing business are on a low budget or are not willing to spend to start their business.
Although affiliate marketing is free and easy to get started, sometimes you need to watch some YouTube videos or get some training to learn a bit more about the business.
This is because if you are a newbie just getting started on this journey, you might not know a lot about it. Therefore, you might need some help.
If you do not have enough money to invest in a course, you can find free YouTube videos where you can learn a ton of information about affiliate marketing-This will give you some knowledge and get you started.
So, it is important to have some knowledge to know what you are doing.
2-Using The Wrong Methods & Tools
When starting affiliate marketing, it is important to use the right methods.
Unfortunately, most marketers out there do not use them.
For example, some of them fail because they use paid ads.
Although paid ads aren’t necessarily bad, you have to know exactly what you are doing. Otherwise, you might lose a lot of money trying to make money.
In case you don’t know, Paid ads are the process of paying Google to promote your content or product.
If you are a newbie, this method is not recommended unless you know exactly what you are doing.
Also, it is preferable to have a WordPress website rather than Medium sites or a site at Blogger.com where you will have some restrictions.
Having a WordPress website will not only allow you to do affiliate marketing but also put Google Adsense which will increase your revenues. Whereas, you can not display Adsense on a Medium site.
3-Listening To Bad Guru’s Advice
Many affiliate marketer newbies follow the so-called Gurus out there that promise to give them the right advice.
Unfortunately, most of that advice leads marketers to failure.
Those “Gurus” will often push newbies to invest money in useless tools.
Hence you should be careful who you are following on the internet.
4-Not Focusing On One Platform
This is the most common mistake I see a lot with newbie marketers.
Many marketers think they will make more money in the beginning by being all over the internet.
That’s not true.
It is preferable to focus on one platform when you are just getting started.
The most common platforms you can do affiliate marketing on are a website, a youtube channel, Pinterest, and Facebook or Instagram.
All you have to do is to pick one of them and start with that until you have gained enough experience and authority, then you can expand to a second one.
==>>Here’s a perfect affiliate marketing guide for beginners that I wrote.
Being all over the internet as a newbie will make you fail.
My #1 recommended platform to start affiliate marketing is a website.
There are many reasons why people are willing to spend huge amounts of money to buy a website on platforms like Flippa for instance.
A website has a lot of potentials. Google is used worldwide. So, imagine the amount of traffic your website can generate each month or year through Google or Bing.
You can create content today, that content is going to stay on the internet and people will still find it after years
This is what we call “Set it and forget it”.
I have seen articles that have been written 8 years ago and are still on the internet. People are still viewing them.
You can make money with a website in three ways: Affiliate marketing, Google Adsense and creating your products and services.
Youtube is also a great platform to do affiliate marketing. This is my second recommendation.
5-The Lack Of Consistency
Most marketers also fail due to the lack of consistency.
Having an affiliate marketing business requires patience and consistency.
I see a lot of marketers giving up after one or two months if they don’t see any results.
This is wrong!
If you just started with affiliate marketing, be patient and consistent. Even if you don’t see any results in the first few months, do not give up. It will end up paying off.
You are creating a long-term sustainable business. So, patience and consistency are recommended.
You have to create content regularly. Not necessarily every day, but you have to set a schedule and respect it.
If you have a website, write content 2-3 days a week. If you have a YouTube channel, create a video 3-4 days a week. And if you are using social media, engage with your followers/community every single day.
6-Not Giving Enough Value To Their Audience
In affiliate marketing like any other business, it is important to give value to the customers or people who follow you.
Some affiliate marketers only focus on selling and promoting their products.
This is wrong!
Instead, focus on helping and giving value to your audience. Give a lot for free, gain their trust, then when you promote something, they will be more than likely to easily make a purchase.
